SEO description · Perranporth-based wedding photographer for The Seiners Arms. Colourful, candid photos from the beach to the dance floor, without the awkward posing.

The Seiners Arms Wedding Photographer

I can see The Seiners Arms from my kitchen window. It’s about a thirty-second walk from my front door, and some of my favourite wedding photographs have been taken there.

The weddings I’ve shot here have always felt properly relaxed. Lisa is an absolute force of nature, the team make everyone feel at home, and they know how to put on a good party.

Perranporth beach is right outside

If the light comes good, we can nip out for a few photos and be back with your guests before anyone’s had a chance to miss you. I know this stretch of beach well, so I’ll have an eye on the tide and where the light’s falling. Sometimes we’ll go onto the sand. When the sea comes right up against the walls, the view from the venue is a photograph in itself. You can see Chapel Rock from the reception room, too.

Inside, it feels a bit like being on a ship

There’s wood everywhere and it gives the photographs a lovely warmth. I’d put those indoor frames alongside the beach ones any day. The reactions during the speeches, the conversations between tables and whatever happens once everyone hits the dance floor are just as much a part of a wedding at the Seiners.

Nancarrow Farm Wedding Photographer

I photographed a wedding at Nancarrow Farm during the Beast from the East. Half the guests couldn’t get through the snow, and neither could the food the couple had ordered. The Nancarrow team stepped in and somehow put on an absolute belter of a meal. I still think about that wedding whenever anyone mentions the place.

A wedding that feels like everyone’s together

Nancarrow is a working organic farm near Truro, with converted barns, on-site rooms for some of your guests and an in-house kitchen that uses produce from the farm. Having some of your closest people staying there gives the whole thing a lovely communal feel. There’s time to settle in, and there’s usually something worth photographing happening wherever people have gathered.

In the barn and out in the grounds

I love shooting in the barn. You can have your ceremony in the Rusty Barn or choose an outdoor spot, and both feel very much part of the farm. For portraits, I’d see what the weather and light give us on the day. A few minutes in the grounds can be plenty. Some of my favourite photographs at a place like this are the ones I make back inside, when everybody’s around the table and the conversation is in full flow.

Planning a Nancarrow Farm wedding?

Tell me what you’ve got in mind. I’d love to hear how you’re making the place your own.

SEO description · Colourful, candid wedding photography at The Barn at Pengelly, from the light-filled barn to the lakes and wildflower fields.

The Barn at Pengelly Wedding Photographer

Give me the wildflower fields at Pengelly in the right light and I’m very happy. There’s so much open space around the barn that you can make a photograph with the two of you quite small in the frame and still get a real sense of being there together.

A big barn with lovely light

The Barn at Pengelly sits on a working farm near Truro. It’s a generous space with lots of light, which I love for candid photographs. I can step back and show what the room feels like with everyone in it, then get closer for the reactions and little moments that are easy to miss on the day. The team have always struck me as people who’ll do everything they can to make the day work for you.

The lake or the wildflowers?

The lake down in the grounds is a lovely spot if you fancy a few quiet minutes together. The wildflowers are my personal favourite when they’re in bloom and the light is right. We can decide where to go on the day and fit a short walk around whatever’s happening back at the barn. There’s also on-site accommodation if you’re making a longer celebration of it.

Getting married at The Barn at Pengelly?

If you’re after relaxed photographs of the people, the party and a little of that big Cornish landscape, I’d love to hear from you.

Lusty Glaze

SEO description · Documentary wedding photography at Lusty Glaze in Newquay, from beachside prep and ceremonies on the sand to portraits by the cave.

Lusty Glaze Wedding Photographer

Every wedding I’ve photographed at Lusty Glaze has had a properly playful feel. Maybe it’s being down in the cove with the sea right there. Whatever it is, I always come away with pictures that make me grin.

From getting ready to getting married on the sand

Some of my favourite photographs here are from before the ceremony. I’ve loved shooting prep in the little beachside spaces, where you already feel part of the place before you’ve stepped outside. Lusty Glaze has two on-site stays, The Cottage and The Chalet.

You can legally get married right on the sand, and if you’ve booked exclusive hire, you can have the whole beach to yourselves. That’s a pretty special thing to be able to do in Newquay.

A few minutes by the cave

I love the big cave for a photograph. I’d see what the tide and light are doing and take a short wander if the timing works. Then it’s back to the good stuff with your guests. The cave gives you a photograph that could only have been made there. The people give you photographs that could only have come from your wedding.

Planning a Lusty Glaze wedding?

Tell me what you’re dreaming up for the day. I’d happily go back down to that beach with a camera.

SEO description · Candid wedding photography at Polhawn Fort on Cornwall’s Rame Peninsula, from ceremonies on the lawn to portraits down by the cove.

Polhawn Fort Wedding Photographer

I’ve photographed weddings on the lawn at Polhawn Fort and been down to the little beach for portraits. It’s one of my favourite venues in the South West. Even after a few visits, there’s still something rather brilliant about turning up to photograph a wedding in an actual nineteenth-century fort overlooking the sea.

A ceremony with the coast in the frame

The fort sits on the Rame Peninsula, and I love how much of that coastline you can get into a frame from the lawn. I’ll make a few wider photographs that show where you are, then get in close enough to see what your family and friends are doing while you’re busy getting married.

A little time down by the cove

If you fancy a few photographs by the water, I’d work out the timing around the light, the conditions and the rest of the day. The cove is a lovely change of scene, especially when there’s a chance to slip away together for a few minutes. There’s plenty to work with back at the fort, too, so we can see what suits you on the day.

Getting married at Polhawn Fort?

Tell me whether you’re picturing vows on the lawn or have something else in mind. I’d love to hear about it.

SEO description · Documentary wedding photography at Wooladon Estate in Lifton, with candid moments and countryside portraits on the Devon and Cornwall border.

Wooladon Estate Wedding Photographer

What struck me when I photographed a wedding at Wooladon Estate was how easy it was to spend time together. There’s room to spread out, but it still feels like you’re all in the same place for the same reason. The team were lovely, too.

Room to make a weekend of it

Wooladon is in Lifton, on the Devon side of the Cornwall border. The estate has on-site cottages and grounds that take in fields, woodland and lakes. If some of your guests are staying, that gives the day a different rhythm. There’s time for people to settle in and see each other, and I love photographing the moments that come out of that.

Out into the fields when the light’s right

The fields were the bit I kept looking out towards when I shot there. Get the light right and a short walk is all you need for a few photographs with a sense of the landscape around you. I’d keep the timing flexible so we can go when it fits the day and get you straight back to your guests.

Planning a Wooladon Estate wedding?

Tell me how you’re using the estate and what you want the day to feel like. I’d love to come back and photograph it.

SEO description · Candid wedding photography at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, with outdoor ceremonies, wild garden portraits and practical advice from Si Johns.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan Wedding Photographer

I go to Heligan with my kids anyway, so being asked to photograph weddings there has always felt like a bit of a treat. I’ve shot some gorgeous outdoor weddings here, and it’s lovely knowing a couple of my photographs have been used by Heligan in its own publicity.

From the Jungle to the glasshouses

The Jungle feels completely different from the more formal gardens. You’ve got the bridges and all that dense greenery, then you can head back towards the glasshouses and find an entirely different sort of frame. When the light catches the Jungle just right, it’s one of my favourite places to photograph.

Pick a couple of spots and enjoy the rest of the day

Heligan is huge. If you’re getting married there, I’d pick one or two places you really love for portraits and leave a bit of room to see what the light’s doing. That way you can have the photographs you came for and still spend most of your day with your guests. I’ll spend that time photographing the wedding as it happens, from the ceremony to the little exchanges you might never have seen.

Getting married at Heligan?

If there’s a corner of the gardens you already love, tell me about it. I’d like to know what drew you there.

SEO description · Documentary wedding photography at Carbis Bay Estate, with candid coverage, coastal portraits and advice on finding a quieter stretch of sand.

Carbis Bay Estate Wedding Photographer

Carbis Bay Estate is somewhere I love photographing a beautifully styled wedding. There’s the detail you’ve put into the day, the grounds around you and, right below it all, that sweep of sand. It’s a pleasure to photograph the whole thing coming together.

The estate and the beach

The estate has several ceremony spaces, including the Wedding Hut by the sand and the Garden Pavilion. Wherever you’re getting married, I’ll photograph the setting and the details you’ve chosen, as well as the part that changes every time I go back. The people in the room, what they do and how the wedding feels once it’s under way.

If you want a quiet beach photograph

If an empty-looking beach is high on your list, I’d consider an out-of-season date. The sand can get very busy in the warmer months. On the day itself, I’ll see how the beach looks and how the light’s falling. The grounds give us somewhere lovely to go for a few portraits whenever that suits the two of you.

Planning a Carbis Bay Estate wedding?

I’d love to hear where you’re holding the ceremony and what you’re putting together for the day.
