A Few of My Favourite Wedding Venues in Devon and Cornwall

I’m Si Johns, a documentary wedding photographer based in Perranporth. These are a few of my favourite wedding venues in Devon and Cornwall, all places I’ve photographed real weddings. One’s so close I can see it from my kitchen window.

Have a look through for real wedding photos and the little things I’d tell you if we were chatting about your plans. Where’s good for a few portraits? When would I head down to the beach? And how do we fit it all in so you can spend the day with your favourite people?

Close to home

The Seiners Arms · Perranporth

My local, and home to some of my favourite wedding photographs. Perranporth Beach is right outside, the timber-lined room feels a bit like being on a ship, and Lisa and the team know how to put on a proper party.

Nancarrow Farm · Near Truro

I photographed a wedding here during the Beast from the East. Half the guests couldn’t get through the snow, and neither could the food the couple had ordered. The Nancarrow team still pulled off an absolute belter of a meal. That tells you a fair bit about the place.

The Barn at Pengelly · Near Truro

A big, light-filled barn with open countryside all around it. I love heading down to the lake for a few photos, but give me the wildflower fields in the right light and I’m very happy.

Lusty Glaze Beach · Newquay

Every wedding I’ve photographed down in this cove has had a properly playful feel. I love the little beachside spaces for getting-ready photos, the chance to get married right on the sand, and that big cave when the light and tide line up. With exclusive hire, you can have the beach to yourselves.

Further afield

Polhawn Fort · Rame Peninsula

A 19th-century fort overlooking the sea on Cornwall’s Rame Peninsula. I’ve photographed weddings out on the lawn and taken couples down to the little cove for portraits. It’s one of my favourite wedding venues in the South West.

Wooladon Estate · Lifton, Devon

The team were lovely when I photographed a wedding here, and the cottages on site mean some of your favourite people can stay close by. There’s plenty of space to wander, and the fields are where I’d head when the light comes good.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan · Near Mevagissey

I come here with my kids anyway, so photographing a wedding at Heligan always feels like a treat. The Jungle, the glasshouses and the gardens all give you something different. My advice? Pick a couple of spots you love and give yourselves time to enjoy the party.

Carbis Bay Estate · Near St Ives

I love photographing a beautifully styled wedding here, with those grounds and the sweep of beach below. If quiet beach portraits are high on your list, it’s well worth thinking about a date outside the busiest months.
